The Al-Forat story

Named after Iraq's river, with a mission that has flowed like it since 2004

Al-Forat TV went on air on 10 November 2004 as an independent Iraqi channel covering local and international affairs and following political, sporting and social events and everything that matters to Iraqi society.

We adopt a moderate discourse for one united Iraq, keeping an equal distance from all the components of the diverse Iraqi people; we promote the values of democracy, freedom, and political and economic openness to the world; and we aim to be a friendly, dependable channel that offers the most truthful and faithful picture, committed to an inclusive national line.

Today Al-Forat reaches its audience via 3 satellites, its website and its digital platforms, with a network of 18 offices and correspondents across the provinces and daily and weekly programmes that bring together news, debate, public service and culture.
